Bolt Fund

Introduction and Aims

Want to help develop safe and accessible new routes in Powell River? Consider donating some money to The Bolt Fund.

While everyone enjoys climbing routes equipped with modern stainless steel hardware and top anchors, creating these climbs and upgrading the hardware on old classics takes time, money and effort. Traditionally, these costs were covered by a small, dedicated group that purchased the hardware with their own money and sacrificed their time so we could all safely enjoy climbing in Powell River.
The Powell River Fund was officially set up in 2016 with the express intention of replacing old bolts, belays, lower-offs and other pieces of rotting fixed protection on the beautiful beach side cliffs of Powell River, and establishing new areas in the Eldred Valley.  The work needs to continue and it is an expensive and time consuming business.
This bolt fund will be used to provide new hardware for upgrading equipment at established crags such as Moss Mountain and Higgy Land.  bolt-fund equipment will also be made available to climbers establishing new routes in the Eldred Valley, these walls are very expensive to equip properly with hardware due to the length of the routes.

Good quality stainless steel bolts cost, on average around $3.50 per placement and a double bolt belay or lower-off with suitable ring or chain fixing can cost anything between $10 to $15. Of course this doesn't account for the cost and maintenance of drills, bits and other necessary tools.

Thank you for your generous donation.
